Counsellor & Psychotherapist in Herefordshire - Marian Gillett

I am a highly qualified counsellor and psychotherapist with 20 years of experience working with couples and individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds. As I am working towards retirement, I am no longer offering long term psychotherapy, but am accepting new clients who want to work in a short term, focused way. I have worked for Relate for 10 years, and am particularly interested in working with couples and individuals who want to learn how to improve their relationships.

If this is what you are looking for, then phone me for an initial talk, and perhaps arrange an exploratory session. When we meet, we can talk about what you are hoping for, and any concerns you may have. If you decide not to take it further, then I don't charge for this session. If we are to continue to meet, then my normal charges apply. My current rates for an hour's session are: £40 for an individual, and £45 for a couple.

Counsellor and Psychotherapist - Herefordshire, Powys, Shropshire - Marian Gillett

How can counselling/psychotherapy help?

Talk to someone in complete confidence
Work with problems related to your relationships, job, life changes, bereavement or other difficulties and choices.
Explore long-term feelings of depression, anxiety, stress or dissatisfaction, and find ways of shifting them
Understand yourself more deeply and find your own way forward
Discover more effective and satisfying ways of living

Counselling or psychotherapy?

Counselling is usually more short-term and often has a specific goal and more defined focus. The longer you continue, the more you will identify patterns from the past, and how they influence you now.
Psychotherapy looks in depth at these underlying patterns and how they are affecting your present life.

Couple counselling

You may wish to come as a couple to work on problems you are having in your relationship. Counselling can help you understand the underlying problems as well as the more obvious difficulties. This understanding can help to reduce the power of past and present hurts and disappointments, and find more satisfying ways of being together.

My training is an integrative one, combining the humanistic and psychoanalytic schools of thought. From the humanistic or person-centered approach comes a belief that people will naturally grow towards health if given the right conditions; from the psychoanalytic approach comes a concern with human development and with the childhood patterns that affect us in the present.
