Online counselling

Online counselling offers a convenient, private way to access counselling without the inconvenience of travel and this may be particularly useful for couples. Many people find video counselling to be very effective. I offer video counselling only to ensure the best communication. We can chat via Skype, FaceTime or Zoom.

Couple counselling

You may be finding your relationship difficult at the moment and want to understand why you keep getting stuck. Or it may be a time of real crisis and despair. However bad it is, couple counselling can help you understand the underlying problems as well as the more obvious difficulties. It is often possible to turn things round and learn to listen to each other in new ways, to increase your level of intimacy and discover more satisfying ways of being together. And if you do decide to separate, it is always valuable to understand what went wrong and be able to separate in the most constructive way possible.

How can counselling/psychotherapy help?

Talk to someone in complete confidence
Work with problems related to your relationships, job, life changes, bereavement or other difficulties and choices.
Explore long-term feelings of depression, anxiety, stress or dissatisfaction, and find ways of shifting them
Understand yourself more deeply and find your own way forward
Discover more effective and satisfying ways of living

Counselling or psychotherapy?

Counselling is usually more short-term and often has a specific goal and more defined focus. The longer you continue, the more you will identify patterns from the past, and how they influence you now.
Psychotherapy looks in depth at these underlying patterns and how they are affecting your present life.

My training is an integrative one, combining the humanistic and psychoanalytic schools of thought. From the humanistic or person-centered approach comes a belief that people will naturally grow towards health if given the right conditions; from the psychoanalytic approach comes a concern with human development and with the childhood patterns that affect us in the present. I have worked for Relate for 10 years including providing training for them.
